It is not every day that Modern Home Improvers gets to work on something so special. When the clients approached us to extend and renovate their 1920s heritage-listed home, we knew straight away that every little detail has to be done right inside and out.
The brief was fairly simple : open plan living, kitchen, alfresco and a master suite. Working closely with the clients and realising the challenges and potential presented by the existing house and sloping site, we managed to fulfil the brief with some creative spatial planning. The product of which includes a mezzanine music room with a store room that is accessible from ground level underneath.
The existing grand facade is restored and tuck-pointed, and the new addition features architectural detailing consistent with the existing. The new limestone footing, two-tone external walls, double-columns, gable scrolls and timber joinery with leadlight glazing seamlessly blend with the existing, while the sleek lines of the kitchen and luxurious master suite add a contemporary touch to this stately home.
Inspired choice of materials enhances the elegance of the finished home further and ties the different elements together. The natural variegation of sandstone is echoed by the ensuite feature wall, and in the varying hues of recycled brick footpath that wraps around the house.
